(Cazayoux Bio)

In the heart of Austin, Texas, an ensemble known as CAZAYOUX emerges, weaving a tapestry of sound with unparalleled dedication and craftsmanship. Led by Forest Cazayoux, whose drumming resonated far beyond the confines of their local scenes, they've drawn together a mosaic of musicians from around the globe. Each member, with roots stretching to Guinea, Japan, Mexico, and across the United States, brings a rich narrative of cultural soundscapes to the collective.

Their music, a thoughtful amalgamation of psychedelic funk, afrobeat, and jazz, transcends ordinary classification. It's as if each note is carefully extracted from a vast, eclectic palette, blending into a harmonious symphony that speaks to the soul.

Attending one of their performances is akin to participating in a communal experience, where every rhythm and melody invites introspection and collective joy. It's a space where the audience and performers unite in a mutual celebration of sound's ability to transcend boundaries.

(The Point)

The Point was formed in 2017 in Austin, Texas by childhood friends Jack Montesinos on guitar, Joe Roddy on keyboards and Italian drummer Alberto Telo. Originating from deep roots in hip-hop production, Jack and Joe evolved into accomplished multi-instrumentalists and live performance became the focus of their music. The band quickly earned a residency at the venerable C-Boy's Heart and Soul, where they explored a bastardized, "jammy" approach to live music to ever-growing, appreciative audiences.

During the isolated, immersive days of the pandemic, the band soaked up increasingly diverse musical influences ranging from Peruvian cumbia, Thai mor lam, Anatolian rock, and Saharan blues. In 2023, they incorporated Austin drummer and producer, Nico Léophonte, who produced the band's debut EP, Berto's Banquet. Along with his recording expertise, Nico, a native of southern France, brought the pan-African rhythms to the band he was exposed to by his Congolese mother.

The music of The Point channels their beloved mélange of influences into one big jam with Texas Blues underpinning the whole, lovely mess.

After meeting Beto Martinez (Grupo Fantasma, Money Chicha, Caremelo Haze), the group knew he was the right person to record and co-produce their first LP, MALDITIO ANIMAL, inspired by Nico's mule Toksha who is featured on the album's artwork. The album begins with a cover of Ethiopian jazz organ and accordion legend Hailu Mergia's "Wede Harer Guzo" and then launches into the band's original dub-soul single "Mrs. Kind Eyes." The album continues its eclectic journey with the J-Dilla-esque "Tranquil Lom," and the single "Leaving" which is a hopeful and mournful dedication to Ethio-jazz and Chicano soul.

The three members have shared the stage and recorded with artists like The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Gary Clark Jr., Kool Keith, Lil Keke, Lil Flip, Jimmie Vaughan, James Burton, Los Lobos, The Greyhounds, The Mellows, The Tailgators, Sentimental Family Band, Cactus Lee, The Black Pumas, Charley Crockett and countless others."
